For Eleanore Rubinstein (a youthful 100 years old), her daughters Deanne Rubinstein and Diane Koopman, and her granddaughter Teri Dehaan, the library is a family affair. All four dynamic women have been coming through the doors of West Slope Community Library for decades, sometimes with kids and grandkids in tow, sometimes on a quiet solo visit, and always uplifting the mood of staff, volunteers, and other patrons. On the rare visit that includes all four women and one of Eleanore’s great-great-grandchildren, a full five generations are represented!
Among the library’s most loyal patrons, they have attended programs and story times for years and have checked out thousands of books. As strong library advocates and supporters of the Friends of West Slope Library, Eleanore, Deanne, Diane, and Teri love to introduce friends and neighbors to “their” library.
Eleanore’s number one lesson for those wanting to live a long, healthy life is “Be active.” She and the women in her family live this out by staying involved in their communities and by reading a lot, so the library, of course, is built into their daily activities. That’s a lifestyle to which we can all aspire.
